The Executive Committee plans to meet on June 7 at two o’clock in Conference room A to develop a strategic plan for implementing technology changes. At it’s meeting on March 15th, the comittee discussed our current computer an network systems with Ashley Price a leading Consultant with Central Technology services, who we hired on Gina’s recommendation.
Ms. Price agreed to apprise our situation, and to report back to us.2 weeks ago Ms. Price called Rick in our Personal Department and asked whether she could interview 5 Managers and about 20 experienced knowledgeable computer users early next week? Rick is scheduling 45 minute slots for managers and thirty minute slots for computer users. The interviews will be held at our new facility on Highway Ten on the South side of the city. This sight is more convenient for staff then the building at 1 Main Street.
All managers should do they’re best to acommodate requests form Rick for staff and managerial time. If you are unable to schedule an interview please call me immediately so i can choose someone else to participate.
Ms. Prices has prepared a preliminary report which is attached. As we might of expected, it recomends extensive changes. To slow and lacking sufficient memory, the report states that our 486’s cannot meet our projected processing and storage needs. It also points out the that computers cannot run the newer (8.0) version of our office suite. Ms. Price thinks we should replace it with Pentium IV computers with 256 MB or RAM, 40-GHz hard drives, and nineteen” monitors. She also proposes that we upgrade our office suite and invest in top of the line Firewall and Virus Protection Software. In addition Ms. Price suggests switching to broadband Internet connections.
The report also analyzes our data storage and and file-sharing problems. According to Ms Price an NAS (network attached storage server is the answer. On Page 8 of the report, she says “an NAS server will plug into your network easy. It will appear in users desktops as an extra drive. An NAS server can back up any type file, and can offer you’re employees quick easy and secure access to shared files.”
Ms. Price adds that NAS servers are cost-effective, and can be upgraded easily to meet our data storage and file-sharing needs.
The cost of all these improvements are 27% higher than anticipated. If we except Ms. Price’s advise, our Long Range Budget committee will have to determine the affect these expeinditures will have on our budget before we precede.
This upgraded technology will sure save our empoyees a grate deal of time and make them even more productive. We must compliment our investment in hardware and software with a investment in our personal. We have invited 4 companies to submit proposals to provide us with Web based training materials. I will review these materials. And will report on all these developments at the June meeting.
Please review Ms. Prices report; and be prepared to coment on it at the meeting. You are welcome too right or stop by before then to discuss their conclusions and your department’s needs. We appreciate the efforts you have made to insure that the technology we choose will work good, grow with us, and be cost-effective.

I’ve had a problem for a few weeks now where my DSL will randomly kick me off at different times, like 3-5 times per day. Durations also vary, but it’s usually 5-30 minutes… sometimes longer. Even when it works, like now, if I load a new page I haven’t been to yet I’ll sometimes get "Address Not Found", but if I refresh it’ll go through. Anyway, the cable company came by and we agree it’s nothing on their end, but they gave me a new modem to be sure. I thought my wireless router was the problem but I’ve been plugged in for days and nothing’s changed. Haven’t installed any new software. I reviewed my connection settings and they’re all normal. When internet’s down and I run Windows Diagnostic on my connection it says it can’t communicate with the DNS servers. Something somewhere if blocking it — filter, firewall, etc? But what could it be? Any ideas at all? It’s getting annoying. I run Vista btw. Please and thanks!
MB: Internet went down a few minutes ago so I typed that into cmd prompt and it said access denied…
Sure sounds like an ISP problem to me. What did the cable company do to convince you it wasn’t their problem?
Here’s how you test it. When you are having problems, connect a computer directly into the ethernet port of the modem. Boot is so it picks up the local settings. This setup will eliminate your internal wired and wireless network from the loop. Everything you’re testing belongs to them.
Then go to a dos prompt and ping a known good address (yahoo.com will do) with the n switch. Like this:
Ping yahoo.com n 20 > c:\pingtest.txt
Your machine will ping yahoo 20 times in a row and count how many of them get through. If it is less than 18 or 19 your ISP is losing packets in it’s network and needs to work on your QOS. The redirect (> c:\pingtest.txt) will leave a copy of the output in a text file on your C: drive so you can show it to the ISP’s tech when he acts like that never happens.
These guys know when they are dropping traffic but they aren’t going to volunteer the information unless they know you know how to check it.
http://live.pirillo.com – Should security software be run on a Mac? In short – yes. Never assume you are 100% safe. Mac enjoys security through obscurity. Your chances are less for infection than with Windows, but there is still a risk there. At a minimum, you should run a firewall to ensure you won’t be exploited. An anti virus program is a good idea, as well. Remember, surf smart and educate yourself about security issues.

my msn wont sign in and my lime wire don’t work ever since ive installed mcfee a new protection software bt told me to install when i go to sign into my msn it says
Failed to connect to the service. This could be due to improper proxy or firewall settings. Please review your proxy and firewall settings . Proxy settings can be accessed thought windows live messenger options. For firewall settings. please see the retailer’s instructions
and for lime wire it says
lime wire was unacle to intialize and start. this is usally dure to a firewall program blocking limrewire acess to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. please allow limewire access to the internet and restart limewire
You need to adjust your firewall settings by the looks of it. You could try going to control panel then Windows firewall but I think its more likely to be this new firewall you downloaded. So read the help guide to find out how to disable your firewall of msn and limewire.
Security Software from McAfee inc. I would rate it about 7/10. I would recommend Kaspersky or Bitdefender.
Pros of the is software:
comes with all the features like firewall anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, anti-spam
firewall lockdown
McAfee site advisor (you can download this at McAfee.com for free)
some small good features like quickclean
cons:
Uses lots of RAM and CPU
slow at scanning
not the best at detecting badware and stuff
50$ cost per year

This error message keeps on popping up!!!! there is no end!!!
"FrostWire is unable;e to connect to hosts on the Gnutella network. This is most often due to firewalls or content-filtering software blocking access to Gnutella (port6346). Please review your firewall’s options to allow FrostWire to access the Gnutella network or speak to your system administrator or ISP to determine if Gnutella traffic is being filtered." What do I do about this? please some answers?! thanks
Do you have any software firewalls in use? Check for Windows Firewall. Adjust settings for Frostwire or allow all traffic for it.
Do you have NAT enabled in your modem? You can check this either in modem settings, or by checking your IP address in Start > Run > type "cmd" sans quotes > type "ipconfig" also without the "". If your IP is something like 192.168 then you are behind NAT and need to forward the ports used by Frostwire in your modem settings.
Check this link for help with port forwarding http://portforward.com/
Also, if you are using this on school/work computer, there is a possibility that network-level firewall/content filtering is blocking connections.
Also, try the following advice about replacing gnutella.net file from Frostwire support forum http://www.frostwire.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2884
