(ANS) If you want the best software firewall then I can highly recommend ZoneAlarms (basic freeware version) why? the ZoneAlarm products all use a technique called "statefull packet inspection" (SPI) this is a VERY tough & highly robust method of protecting systems from intrusion.

**SPI is a well tried & tested firewalling method & is used in millions of routers, WiFi routers, hardware firewalls & commercial products. (Avoid products that only offer packet filtering as they are NOT as secure or robust).

I have been using Zone Alarms free basic firewall for many many years and its extremely reliable and highly trustworth, set it & forget it.

**The paid versions are equally good but have more bells & whistles than I wanted or are nesseccary.

10 out of 10 (possibly the best peice of freeware I have on my system).

MSN offers a free firewall package through McAfee. I haven’t seen such an offer from ATT Yahoo. The cost of such packages can make the difference between my selection of ISP providers. Please let me know if I have overlooked your free firewall option.

Do not install the "AT&T Yahoo! Browser" it will cause problems. You don’t need it. I also avoided "AT&T Yahoo! Music Jukebox" just another online music store.

I also installed Windows Defender (free). Greatly improved my spyware protection. ATT spyware protection is poor. I am using both spyware programs.
